My husband’s grandfather built a cabin in the Santa Cruz Mts. in 1914. It sits on the
Bean Creek in Scott’s Valley, so we affectionately refer to the cabin as “The Bean.” It
has been a family treasure ever since.

Please join me for a day at the Bean photographing the cabin itself with its wood
burning stove and original redwood walls and counters, as well as the surrounding
area. The cabin is surrounded by towering redwoods and the creek shores are lined
with lush ferns. Banana slugs and newts are common, as well as an array of birds and
the occasional turtle or owl. It would be fun to get a group picture here!

The creek is quite shallow (a few inches with some deeper pools), so bring water
shoes, maybe a hiking pole if needed, as those interested will take a short creek walk.
However, there is much to photograph if you don’t feel like getting your feet wet.

I suggest bringing a bag lunch, but there are numerous eateries nearby, but when we
get to the cabin, most people don’t want to visit civilization to get a burger!

Carpooling is encouraged, as parking is limited. It takes just over an hour to get there,
barring traffic. We’ll leave here at 9 a.m. and stay until 2ish at the latest.
